This is one of three paintings I did representing a Hotel in East Berlin I stayed at in April 2018. It was fully booked but I never met anyone, and, except for when I checked in, there was nobody at reception either. It all had a very odd feeling, as if someone was always watching you from behind a corner.
One painting (The Other side 1) shows my room - I never unpacked completely, maybe because the place made me feel restless and ready to leave. Another (The Other Side 2) the corridor outside of my room. The third one (The Other Side 3) is the dining room of the Hotel.
The painting on the wall of the dining room depicted a still life with flowers, but I painted it black, to convey that this place had a flip side.
